How do I import from a spreadsheet?

Pin Drop imports a spreadsheet saved as a CSV file. Lay your places out one per row with a header row at the top. Include at least a name for each place and a way to locate it, either a full address or a latitude and longitude. A notes column and a tags column are optional and come across with each pin.

This works with Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets. In each, choose Save As or Download and pick CSV.

Exporting from a CRM

A CSV exported from a CRM works exactly the same way as one you built yourself. It usually just has more columns than you need, and the address split across several of them.

From Salesforce, run a report on Accounts or Leads and include the name, the address and phone or email where useful. Salesforce exports addresses as separate street, city, state, postcode and country fields, so add a formula field to the report that joins them into one full address column before you export. Keep any latitude and longitude columns if your records are already geocoded, since coordinates are more reliable than re-geocoding an address. Delete the columns you will not use so the field matching stays readable.

Upload it to Pin Drop

Open Pin Drop on the app or website, go to the Data section and choose Import. Select your CSV file and Pin Drop turns each row into a pin, ready to tag and organise. Larger files may take a moment to process.

Tips

If a place does not land where you expect, check the address is complete or add a latitude and longitude. Photos and other attachments cannot be included in a spreadsheet import, so add those once your pins are in.

Addresses exported from a CRM are only as good as the records behind them. After a large import, spot check twenty pins across different regions rather than assuming the whole file landed correctly.
