Why are my search results centred on the wrong city?

Search uses your location to rank nearby results first. If your device isn’t sharing its location with Pin Drop, the app can’t tell where you are, so results and pin distances may be ordered from somewhere else entirely.

This is especially common on corporate devices, where security policies often block location sharing for all apps. Everything still works. Pin Drop just needs to be told where you’re working from.

In most cases the permission simply hasn’t been granted, or was declined when you first set up the app. Turning it back on takes about thirty seconds and fixes the ordering everywhere at once.

Our location permissions guide has the steps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, Windows and each browser.

On managed work devices you may not be able to change the setting yourself. Use Teleport to set your working location by hand instead:

  1. Open Pin Drop on the web at web.pindrop.it
  2. Select Teleport from the navigation
  3. Search for your city and confirm

Search results, suggestions and pin distances immediately reorder around that location. Recent Teleport locations are saved for quick switching, and you can reset to your current location at any time.

Teleport only changes how Pin Drop orders and displays information for you. It doesn’t share a location with your team or change anything on your device. Read more in our Teleport guide.
