Sharing

Pin Drop shares specific things rather than your whole map. There are three:

• A pin. One place, with its details, for when you want to send someone a single location.
• A tag. Every pin carrying that tag, shared as a set. This is how you send someone a map of selected places rather than everything you have saved.
• Your profile. A following relationship rather than a link, covered further down.

Pins and tags are shared through a link. Anyone who has the link can view what you shared, without needing a Pin Drop account, until the link expires or you revoke access.

This is different from inviting people into a team workspace, where named members sign in and can contribute. If you want colleagues editing the same map rather than viewing a copy of part of it, see share with your team.

Sharing a set of places

If you want to send someone a specific group of pins, such as every supplier in one region or every café worth a detour, tag those pins first and share the tag. Tags are how selections are made in Pin Drop, so a tag is the unit you share when a single pin is not enough. There is more on building them in organise with tags.

A single pin

1. Open the pin so its card is showing
2. Scroll to the bottom of the card
3. Select Share
4. Choose how long the link should last
5. Send the link however you like, by message, email or anything else

Whoever opens the link sees that pin and its details. They do not need an account and they cannot change anything.

A whole tag

Sharing a tag sends every pin that carries it, which is the closest thing to sending someone a map of chosen places.

1. Tap the bar at the bottom of the screen to open your tags
2. Select the tag you want to share
3. Scroll to the bottom of the list of pins inside it
4. Select Share
5. Choose how long the link should last

The person you send it to sees all the pins in that tag on a map. If you add pins to the tag later, they appear for anyone still holding a live link.

Your profile works differently from a pin or a tag. There is no link to send and nothing is public by default.

Instead, people ask to follow you. Once you accept, they can see the content on your profile that you have made public. Anyone you have not accepted sees nothing.

Removing a follower

Following is the access control, so managing your followers is how you manage who can see your public content. If you no longer want someone to have access, remove them as a follower and your public content is closed to them again.

It is worth reviewing your followers from time to time, in the same way you would review a share link you set to last forever.

Every time you share a pin or a tag you choose how long the link stays alive:

• 1 hour
• 1 day
• 1 week
• 1 month
• Forever

On the free plan you can choose 1 hour, 1 day or 1 week. The longer options are available on paid plans.

Pick the shortest window that does the job. A link you sent for one afternoon does not need to work next year.

Revoking a link

You can revoke access at any time, whatever expiry you originally chose. Once revoked, the link stops working immediately for everyone holding it. If you want to share the same pin or tag again afterwards, create a new link.

Because anyone with the link can view the content, treat a share link like the content itself. If you are not sure who a link has reached, revoke it and send a fresh one.
