Pin Drop vs Fulcrum

Fulcrum has spent over a decade building one of the more established mobile data collection platforms on the market, used by close to 3,000 companies. In July 2026 Spatial Networks, the company behind it, relaunched Fulcrum as a Field Operations Management platform, aiming to consolidate the mix of apps and paper that utility and inspection crews often juggle in the field.

The strengths are real. Fulcrum's drag-and-drop app builder supports dynamic calculation, requirement and visibility logic, repeatable and linked records and capture of photos, audio, video, barcodes, QR codes and signatures, all of it working offline and syncing once a connection returns.

Its geospatial toolkit goes further than most inspection apps: point, line and polygon capture within a single form, automatic geotagging and offline basemaps and layers. It also exports to shapefile, KML and GeoJSON, and as an Esri partner connects cleanly into ArcGIS Online and Enterprise, which matters for utilities, environmental and engineering teams already living in GIS.

Recent releases have added AI features too, including Audio FastFill for voice-to-form dictation and AI-based Insights, alongside SSO, SCIM and audit logging on its higher-tier plans. Pricing starts around $43 per user a month on the Professional plan when billed annually, with a five-user minimum, and around $39 per user a month on the Elite plan billed annually; Enterprise pricing is custom. These are Fulcrum's published rates and can change.

The platform stays anchored to the form, though. Each inspection, survey or audit lives as its own record, and geospatial data is something a form captures rather than something a place accumulates over time. There is no named territory layer with owners and coverage, and no stage-based pipeline moving a site from lead to close.

The map starts from the opposite direction. Every location is a pin that keeps its own visit history, notes and photos regardless of how many forms, inspections or visits touch it, and stage timing shows how long a site has sat at each point in a pipeline. Territories are drawn by hand with named owners, so coverage and overlap are visible at a glance rather than reconstructed from a spreadsheet of records.

Plenty of teams run both: Fulcrum for the inspection itself, the pin for what happens to that place before and after. Others move fully across once the same sites are visited repeatedly and the form record stops answering what the current status of every place they manage actually is.
