Pin Drop and OptimoRoute

OptimoRoute has spent over a decade on one problem: given a list of orders, drivers and constraints, work out the fastest, most efficient way to get them all done. It plans routes and schedules for hundreds of drivers and thousands of orders at once, accounting for time windows, vehicle capacity, driver skills and multi-day long-haul or pickup-and-delivery work.

Its driver app puts the finished route, order details and turn-by-turn navigation on one phone screen, and dispatchers get live tracking, accurate ETAs and automatic customer notifications as drivers move through the day.

Proof of delivery, barcode scanning and customer feedback are all built in, which makes it a strong fit for delivery and field service operations that live and die by how tightly a day's routes are packed.

That strength is also where the tool stops. OptimoRoute plans and executes a day of stops well, but it isn't built to hold a long-term record of a place once the delivery is marked complete.

There's no territory layer for drawing named coverage areas by hand, no pipeline for moving a site through stages such as prospect, surveyed or won, and no persistent pin that accumulates notes, photos and history across dozens of visits over months or years.

The map fills that gap rather than competing with the routing engine. It isn't trying to out-optimise OptimoRoute's algorithm, it hands multi-stop routes to the driver's own navigator and instead keeps the record of every place: who owns the territory, what happened at each visit and where a site sits in the pipeline.

Used together, one tool can plan and run the day's routes while the pin keeps the history that makes the next visit, and the next quarter's planning, easier.
